Welcoming Susan Pepper as The HC’s First COO
December 2, 2024
We are thrilled to welcome Susan Pepper as The Zekelman Holocaust Center’s first-ever Chief Operating Officer. Susan will play a decisive role in this new position, guiding operations across all departments to drive the mission forward.
“Susan’s vast experience leading multiple departments and managing rapid expansion will be instrumental as we scale operations to provide Holocaust education everywhere in Michigan,” said Rabbi Eli Mayerfeld, Chief Executive Officer of The HC
With antisemitism reaching unprecedented levels in American society, The HC is broadening its outreach beyond the thousands of middle and high school students and teachers served annually. Engagement at statewide universities will bring much-needed education to college students, faculty, and administrators. Increased customized programming will reach professionals from every background, from nursing and medical students to law enforcement to corporate leaders.
“Antisemitism is an age-old hate that may seem unstoppable,” Mayerfeld said. “But we are determined to effect change with education. The current rise in antisemitism gives our work immediacy, relevancy, and urgency. Throughout our new exhibit, local survivor testimonies guide visitors through history, the public becomes a witness to Holocaust history, and individuals go back to their communities empowered to counter antisemitism, prejudice, and hate.
“Susan joins us at a critical time in our growth, and I am thrilled to welcome her as a thought partner for me, our leadership team, and our entire organization.”
Pepper joins The HC after serving as Senior Director of Operations at literacy nonprofit Beyond Basics. Known as a leader who drives change, she previously enjoyed a long career at Ford Motor Company, where she served in several strategic management roles.
