Statement on Last Night’s Antisemitic Attack in Sydney
December 14, 2025
We are devastated and heartbroken by the antisemitic attack in Sydney last night, which occurred on Hanukkah; a time meant to celebrate light, resilience, and Jewish life.
We condemn this act of hatred in the strongest possible terms and stand in mourning and solidarity with the Jewish community in Sydney and with all those who were brutally murdered and injured.
This targeted violence is a painful reminder of the growing threats faced by Jewish communities worldwide. History teaches us that antisemitism, when ignored or normalized, leads to violence.
At The Zekelman Holocaust Center, we know all too well the cost of silence and indifference.
Antisemitism is not only a Jewish problem. When Jews are targeted, the fabric of society itself is weakened. This moment demands that people of conscience everywhere speak out clearly and act decisively against antisemitism.
May the light of Hanukkah strengthen our resolve, and may the memories of those murdered be for a blessing.
Rabbi Eli Mayerfeld,
CEO, The Zekelman Holocaust Center
