Kappy Family Art & Writing Competition Awards Ceremony

Join us at The Zekelman Holocaust Center for the Kappy Family Art & Writing Competition awards ceremony, a special day celebrating the creativity and courage of student participants from across Michigan.

With more than 230 submissions inspired by the lives and legacies of Anne Frank and Elie Wiesel, this year’s competition showcases the powerful voices of young people who engage deeply with history, empathy, and remembrance.

Students, families, and friends are invited to spend the day exploring the museum, viewing finalist artwork and writing, and honoring participants during the awards ceremony.

Cost: Free and open to all participants, family, and friends

Event Schedule 

  • 9:30 AM – The HC opens to the public
  • 10:30 AM – Welcome and opening remarks
  • 10:35 AM – 12:00 PM – Judging begins. Guests may explore submissions and the museum, or enjoy refreshments
  • 12:00 PM – Next Generation Speaker presentation or self-guided exhibit exploration
  • 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM – Awards ceremony
  • 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM – Exhibit remains open for guests
