Arthur Horwitz Book Launch: Dual Identities: Living in Meier’s Shadow

May 7 at 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

The Holocaust Center is proud to host the official book launch of Arthur M. Horwitz’s book, “Dual Identities: Living in Meier’s Shadow.”

A photograph. A secret. A lifetime of responsibility. Arthur M. Horwitz grew up hearing his Holocaust survivor mother’s stories of horror, heroism, and resilience—and discovering a haunting image that would connect him to a life lost before he was born. Dual Identities is his unflinching memoir of intergenerational trauma, identity, and the journey toward healing and remembrance.

In this program, Arthur will explore the making of his memoir, sharing the challenges he faced in navigating his own coming-of-age story in America. He will offer insights into the impact of inherited trauma, the path to coping, and the journey toward reconciliation. The program will be followed by a book signing and dessert reception, with books available for purchase.

Arthur Myron Horwitz is a nationally respected journalist, publisher, and civic leader. His career has been recognized through his induction into the Michigan Journalism Hall of Fame, the establishment of the Arthur M. Horwitz Collection at the University of Michigan, and his designation as publisher emeritus of the Detroit Jewish News, where he served as publisher and executive editor for over thirty years. The child of a Holocaust survivor mother and an American-born father, Arthur has shared his “dual identities” story with thousands of students during visits to The Zekelman Holocaust Center. He is also a frequent panelist on news programs affiliated with ABC, NBC, PBS, and NPR.
